Ascension Church 1988
The Ascension Catholic Community gladly greeted 1988. Through the long, cold winter months, our church building neared completion. Our first Mass was celebrated by Father Philip Lamothe, pastor of St. Ann’s, Milton and Ascension, Georgia on the eve of Palm Sunday, March 26th. The building was overflowing with spirit of prayer and thanksgiving.
On May 12, the Feast of the Ascension, the church was filled with parishioners, invited clergy, friends and relatives to witness the confirmation of 16 candidates and the dedication of the church, which included the anointing and the incensation of the altar. Burlington Bishop John A Marshall was principal celebrant of the Mass with co-celebrants including: Fr. Lamothe, our pastor; Fr. Walter Miller, pastor of St. Jude’s Church, Hinesburg; Fr. Bernard Bechard, SSE, St. Michael’s College, Winooski, Fr. Joseph Sullivan, pastor of St. Luke’s Fairfax; Fr. William Giroux, Holy Angels Parish, St. Albans and Msgr. Edward Fitzsimons, retired Burlington.
